Baptism & Thanksgiving

Congratulations!

Congratulations on the birth of your child!

We join with you in giving thanks to God for the miracle that is new life.

This period of your life is a very special one and we at Gunnedah Anglican Church are privileged to be part of your journey.

It is the time when people are considering the most important things in life and we want to help you.

We offer either a baptism or a thanksgiving service. Read on to help work out which option is right for your family.

Baptism.

As you embark on raising your child in this complex and ever-changing world, it can be hard to know where to start.

Already you’ve made the right choice!

In starting with God, you are starting with the source and creator of life and so listening to Him through his word, the Bible, is going to be important!

You may be considering church involvement, and our church family want to support at this important point in the life of your family.

When you baptise your child, you are declaring that you follow Jesus, and you commit to raising your child to follow Jesus also. Following Jesus means that He is in charge of your life. You trust and obey him.

Following Jesus includes being part of Jesus’ family. So, it doesn’t make sense to baptise a child until you are attending a church regularly.

After this, we will meet with you to explain more about the baptism means and arrange details.

If you’re wondering if church and the Christian life is for you, then we’re happy to chat about it. Its the best decision you will ever make!

Thanksgiving

This is an option that requires less commitment from you.

When we conduct a Thanksgiving service we are doing three things:

  1. We are thanking God for the birth of your child and naming your child.

2. We are welcoming and inviting your family to be part of God’s church family.

3. We are praying that your child will grow to know and understand what it means to say Jesus is Lord and Saviour.

Thanksgiving services are held by arrangement with the minister.

There is no preparation course apart from the initial discussion with the Minister.

There is no cost for the thanksgiving.
